Aptly named considering the number of scaly creatures populating Darwin's undergrowth, Lizards Outdoor Bar and Grill is a little patch of rainforest right in the middle of the city. Thickets of fern and fig shelter outdoor tables from the sun's rays and provide privacy from the street, while the undercover bar area offers a dry environment on rainy days. Recent changes have seen the venue drop the accommodation side of things to better concentrate on the food and functions service. Slither in for a drink at the bar and a glance at the food menu will lure you in with its enticing promises.
Typical pub grub is done with swagger: there's steak with chips and salad; four different burgers (vego, barramundi, beef or steak); a few pastas; the usual chicken incarnations (schnitzel, parmiagiana and kiev); and a good selection of salads and seafood. For the Territory twist, try the skewers of capsicum and crocodile tail fillet served with lemon aioli, or pan-seared kangaroo fillet served on mixed salad leaves with sun-dried tomato, olive caper and rosemary salsa. Desserts change daily and are listed on the specials board.
